Keesee Women Build 2016

The Keesee ladies participated in the 2016 Habitat for Humanity Women Build event. They put their muscles to good use for a great cause, surpassing their fundraising goals.

This program builds homes and communities, bringing together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide.

Keesee has formed a great relationship with Habitat for Humanity over the years. Partnering with them in several arenas- designed homes, provided construction documents, and participated in events such as the Builder’s Blitz.

About the Parade: The Parade of Homes is a showcase of new homes held annually in several regions throughout the United States. The nation’s first home tour organization was established in Minnesota in 1948.  In 2011, the Salt Lake Home Builders Association hosted the “UP” House from the Disney/Pixar Movie. Alternatively known as the Tour of Homes in some locales, it is often presented by the local Home Builders Association (HBA) or Building Industry Association (BIA). The Parade of Homes typically showcases high-end designer homes, both new construction and remodeled homes. Showcases can include single-family homes, condominium, duplexes, and town homes. Some locations allow tours for free; other locations require an admission ticket to view the homes. Some locations offer awards for the best homes.

BECOMING A PARADE OF HOMES JUDGE

Have you ever wanted to be a Parade of Homes judge? If you love homes as much as we do, we bet you said YES!  That very opportunity happened for two of our team members when local Parade of Homes Associations reached out for volunteers.

Roger Neves (pictured below) and Jennifer Rabinek of Keesee Associates both jumped at the chance to be a part of the prestigious event, participating in separate Florida markets.

The first time judges were treated to tour six spectacular homes each and the scores were determined by awarding points for exterior, floor plan, kitchen, as well as other categories. A separate “Merit Award” was given to recognize the outstanding features of each home.

“The Parade of Homes is a long-standing community event showcasing exciting new home technology and automation, beautiful craftsmanship, top-of-the-line appliances, opportunities to connect with builders and more. This a highly-attended public event that is fun and educational”

If you get the chance, be sure to pick up your local Parade of Homes map and see some of these beautiful homes for yourself- you will not be disappointed!

Keesee Helps Kick off the Home Builders Blitz

Habitat for Humanity of Seminole County & Greater Apopka was chosen to host the national kick off of the 2015 Home Builders Blitz! The “Blitz” began on June 8th right here in central Florida.  Mike Keesee and Uziel Benzet of Keesee & Associates were there to lend a helping  hand.

During Builder Blitz Week 200 homes are constructed nationally in just one week’s time, with the first two going up  in Sanford, Florida. Keesee and Associates designed one of the homes and was built by E2 Homes of Maitland.

This event is a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and the building industry. It gives people in the industry chance to give back to their local community’s.  Steve Thomas of the Discovery TV program “This Old House” and Larry Gluth, senior Vice President of Habitat International helped start things off. Also joining the opening ceremony was the Mayor of Sanford, Jeff Triplett.

“Habitat developed its Home Builders Blitz program as a means to engage construction professionals in addressing the need for decent, affordable housing in their own communities,” said Thomas. “Because builders recruit their fellow builders and suppliers to kick in labor, materials and funds during the event, Habitat affiliates can serve more families without the usual tasks of raising funds and recruiting volunteers.”
